Research indicates that students will thrive in an environment of at least 8 positive interactions to every one negative interaction, but Thomas Edison goes far beyond that. Our teachers are masters at using positive reinforcement to engage and challenge students. We see the potential of each learner and strive to help them flourish.
Our educators have established a culture of positivity, and you can feel the difference from the moment you walk through the door. In a similar fashion to teaching students academics, we consistently describe, model, practice, and reinforce positive behaviors with others.
Our Employment Satisfaction “Net Promotor Score” is rated World Class by teachers, parents and students. By way of comparison, Walmart rates 10 and Starbucks rates 77. Our school consistently rates in the 80s. We survey students in 2nd-8th grade every year and ask for candid feedback. Students are generally happy at school; they give teachers and our program a high approval rating.
Dr. Glenn Latham, a renowned researcher and former professor at Utah State University, developed philosophies and practices related to creating an environment in which students will most likely succeed.
These are outlined in his books Keys to Classroom Management and Behind the Schoolhouse Door.
Revolving around the five principles of human behavior, Latham purports that students are most likely to succeed in a positive, safe, and structured environment. Teachers establish and maintain high expectations for performance and these expectations are consistent in all classrooms and through all grade levels.
All teachers and aides are trained in Glenn Latham's positive management skills. Thomas Edison teachers receive regular observations and consistent feedback on Latham's theories and practices, ensuring that this culture spreads to all aspects of the program.
