Qualifications:
I love working at Thomas Edison Charter School because of the safe and positive attitude that exists here. This positive feeling comes from the families that attend because they value education and support hard work. It comes from the students that are polite and kind to their peers and teachers. The positivity comes from supportive and responsive parents that step up and help out in our school and community. It comes from having high expectations for our students, faculty and staff. Thomas Edison Charter School is like no other school that I have ever taught at because of the love and support that you feel when you are here.
I grew up in a family of seven children here in Cache Valley. I was the middle child so I have always figured that's why I'm a little spunky in nature; that could also be because I was born between four brothers that loved sports and teasing their sister. My grandpa worked at Utah State University so I knew from a very young age that I was expected to go to college and needed to do well in school from the beginning. I loved going to school most of the time and got involved in many extra-curricular activities in school: pep club, singing groups, playing instruments, student director of the musical, and color guard. It was fun to make new friends and find activities that I was good at.
I decided to become a teacher at a very young age. Partly because I played school a lot with my older sisters and I never got to be the teacher, and partly because I had a teacher in grade school that didn't create a safe place for me to learn. That sounds a little odd, I know, but I wanted to become a teacher so that I could create a place that all children felt like they wanted to be there and that school was a great place to be. I wanted to create an environment free from embarrassment and judgement. I wanted to create a classroom where everyone felt safe. That is why I am so glad that I found Thomas Edison Charter School where their dream is the same as mine.
